The Essential Schubert: Best Classical Music Collection for Relaxation, Study & Romantic Evenings

This compilation double CD contains some excellent tracks and gives you a lot of schubert for your money. The unfinished plus the great symphonies played by the Weiner Philharmonika under Sir George Solti for starters. In addition a beautiful recording of The Trout played by the late, great Clifford Curzon and members of the Weiner Oktett. In this case I found this recording of such a familiar piece to be really captivating - it has a real mood with it and the age of the recording adds to the feeling. The Impromptu op 90 played by Curzon is absolutely first class which together with the leider sung by Hermann Prey really make this a cracking album. I have a fair library of Schubert but must say I have really enjoyed this mix. Some real classic stuff. Fully recommended.
