Very few artists have the ability to transport you back to those heady and exciting days of the birth of Rock 'n' Roll, but the very sound of The Coasters and the dramatic vignettes created for them by the song writing team of Leiber and Stoller do just that.
Forty songs by the Coasters including their bigger hits and some that I had never heard before. Thirty-two of the Forty were written by the Leiber-Stoller song writing team between the years of 1954 and 1961. The CDs are made in the United Kingdom and played well on my CD player. After listening to their standards for so long that I know every up beat, down beat, and word to their hits, it's nice to hear some new music from an old group that I thoroughly enjoy.Mostly good things by this great group,along with a few duds.I liked the standards along with the r n r!great early rock & roll..great to hear these men againThis does not claim to be the definitive collection although terms like essential, definitive, best of, greatest hits, etc., tend to be used arbitrarily without regard to their accuracy. Nevertheless, this collection serves its purpose well in providing a solid introduction to their music.Yakety yak is the original version with vocals; an instrumental cover by a saxophonist was used as the Benny Hill theme.
