Tong's weekly "Essential Selection" became so reputable that it has since spawned a heady number of compilations, mixes and even tours.Tong's eclectic tastes run the musical gamut in his installment of the Essential Mix mix CD series. The 15-track album gently kicks off with Rui Da Silva's sexy "Touch Me," an easy ride that trembles with weight at the right moments. A power-punch of beats quickly sets off "Salsoul Nugget (If U Wanna) (DJ Lottie Remix)" by M&S Presents The Girl Next Door, while the grooves of Planet Funk's "Chase the Sunsystem F-Needle Juice" provide background for a sappy, melodic tune layered with vocals strangely reminiscent of shoegazer band Lush. No particularly standout tracks here, but Photek's "Mine to Give (David Morales Facedown Mix)" is nice to see among this collection.
