On the plus side this release actually does present excellent audio-quality and, unlike some recent JLL vinyl "re-issues" (a couple of facsimilies dubbed from flawed CD releases), it's well mastered and actually sounds like an LP!That's where the good news ends... both the "one star" and what follows is not, it should be said, a reflection on the undoubted brilliance of Jerry Lee Lewis and the five-star plus quality of the actual music; rather, the review is a commentary on the abject failure of record compilers in 2014 to do justice to the subject and provide something of use and value for customers...The clear intent here was to include original Sun releases but there are several 'track selection errors' - "Breathless" is an early outtake; "Break Up" and "I'll Make it All Up To You" are both 'piano only' performances, not the single versions. The worst mistake is the substitution of the 1958 "Cold Cold Heart" in place of the listed 1961 version as the penultimate track. It's staggering to think that whoever put this set together didn't see anything amiss in having that early recording sandwiched between "What'd I Say" and "Sweet Little Sixteen" with their completely different production techniques and sound...In this burgeoning 'free for all' of new vinyl releases of out-of-copyright material, couldn't those responsible perhaps use a little more imagination and, instead of constantly recycling the same twenty or thirty or so familiar titles, come up with something more innovative? There's loads of scope for doing some serious looking, quality releases on vinyl of Lewis's Sun material - why waste all the potential on releases that look like something you'd find in the bargain bin at Woolworths in the 1980s?
